Sports complex gets recognition from local REMC.
On Friday, July 8th, the Virgil Benge Community Sports Complex, located on the west side of the Jamestown Christian Church campus, received a plaque in recognition of a grant from the Boone County REMC Operation Round Up program.
The grant money was used specifically for installation of the outfield fencing for the baseball/softball field as well as two soccer goals.
Boone REMC members who participate in Operation Round Up agree to have their monthly electric bill amount rounded up to the next whole dollar. The average monthly contribution is 50¢ per month or $6 per year. The collected funds are put into an independent, 501(c)3 trust and disbursed through a grant process. An independent board of trustees meets bimonthly to review grant requests. Operation Round Up contributions are used in the local area served by Boone REMC for charitable and educational purposes.
“We appreciated the opportunity to see firsthand the amenities at the Virgil Benge Community Sports Complex”, stated Boone REMC CEO Bill Conley. “The facility is a great example of the positive impact of Boone REMC’s Operation Round Up program. Because of our members’ generosity, the Operation Round Up program has been able to provide grants for numerous projects like this that enhance the quality of life in and around the communities we serve.”
The Virgil Benge Community Sports Complex is located at 900 N. Lebanon Street in Jamestown. For more information: contact the Jamestown Christian Church at (765) 676-5182 or email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the sports complex Facebook page.
